About Chirpy

Chirpy is a macOS menu-bar app built by Danilo Znamerovszkij, one independent developer based in Barcelona, Spain. Chirpy plays a different notification sound for every Slack channel, contact, or Mac app, so you know what happened without looking. It has been in development since 2024 and is paid for by people buying a $19.99 one-time licence, not by investors or advertising.

Who makes Chirpy?

Chirpy is made by Danilo Znamerovszkij, one independent developer based in Barcelona, Spain. There is no team page because there is no team. The same person writes the code, answers the support email, and ships the releases.

Why was Chirpy built?

macOS has no per-app or per-channel notification sound layer. Every notification sounds the same, so the only way to find out whether something mattered is to stop what you are doing and look. Chirpy adds that layer, playing a different sound for every Slack channel, contact, or Mac app, so you know what happened without looking.

Is Chirpy a company or one person?

One person. Chirpy has been in development since 2024; version 2.0 shipped in May 2025 and version 3.0 in June 2026. It has never had employees.

How is Chirpy funded?

Chirpy is funded entirely by one-time purchases from the people who use it. It costs $19.99 once, is a lifetime licence with no subscription, and comes with a 3-day trial that needs no credit card and a 30-day money-back guarantee. There are no investors, no venture funding, and no ads. Chirpy does all of its matching locally on your Mac, so there is no data to sell either.

How do I contact the developer?

Email [email protected]. It goes straight to the developer, and he answers it himself.

You can also follow the app on X, the developer on @danilo_z_j, YouTube, or Product Hunt. For anything else, email [email protected].

What does Chirpy do with my data?

Nothing leaves your Mac. Chirpy reads notification banners through the macOS Accessibility API and matches them against your rules locally. It does not connect to the Slack, Teams, or Discord APIs, and notification content is never transmitted anywhere. Chirpy is not on the Mac App Store because the Accessibility API it depends on is incompatible with App Store sandboxing, so it is distributed directly from https://chirpy.pro, with licensing handled by Gumroad and updates delivered through Sparkle.
